2001 Fall River Trip
September 15, 2001
Early in the morning before the actual trip started Frank Miklos & Tom Drozd in a 1947 Century Seamaid 17'. The engine's head gasket blew the boat returned to the dock and did not make the trip.
Allegheny Chapter held it's third Annual Fall River Trip. Boats that made the trip were Blaine Koehler, Dale Zubic, Tom Englart, and Ron Pitzer in Blaine's 1957 Chris Craft 20' Continental, Erik & Bob Miklos in a 1960 Century Arabian 19', Chuck Niceley and Doug Chassee in Chuck's 1957 Chris Craft Sportsman, Tom Drozd and Frank Miklos in Blaine Koehler's 1955 Chris Craft Sportsman. A total of ten people went on the trip. We got out of New Brighton about an hour late. Actually three other boats were scheduled to go on the trip. Dale Zubic's 1960 Chris Craft Continental, Frank Miklos' 1947 Century Seamaid 17.5', and Ron Pitzer's 1957 Chris Craft Sportsman. Dale's boat never made it to the water, due to a dead battery. Frank's Seamaid blew a head gasket that morning, & Ron's boat blew a head gasket about 6 miles out. Ron just tied his boat up at a resturant's dock, Ron & Dale then went with Blaine. Frank & Tom used Blaine's 1955 Chris Craft Sportsman in place of the Century Seamaid.

Ron Pitzer boat blew a head gasket it ended up staying at the old lock 6 resturant. Dale calls ahead to the lock to have it waiting for them.

The only other problem on the trip was the gas docks were all closed, due to the terriost acts in NY. Three boats were around 1/2 a tank when we got to our destination. We did everything we could to conserve fuel on the way home. Chuck Niceley ran out about 4 miles from home and had to be towed the rest of the way home. (Chuck claims this was the first time that he ever ran out of fuel in his boat.)
No pictures were taken at Skippers Haven. We all ate a late lunch, (or early dinner) then we returned home. We timed the locks just right on the way back, we did not have much of a wait at either lock.
We returned home after dark.
Two of the boats were pulled out of the water.
Even though it was late everyone had a good time.
